July 19, 2011 by Irene Sege Governor Patrick Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray are travelling the state for a ?Summer Conversation Tour? ?to give residents a chance to discuss issues facing the commonwealth. This is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of high-quality early education and care.? We have word from the field that this is happening. Kathy Modigliani of the Family Child Care Project reports that she spoke about high-quality early education at a forum in Arlington that Murray attended. J.D. Chesloff, chairman of the Board of Early Education and Care and executive director of the Massachusetts Business Roundtable, also spoke about the importance of high-quality early education. Lt. Governor Murray Pam White, director of Mother Hubbard Preschool in Milford, reports that she spoke to the governor at his conversation in Milford ?and presented him with art work created by children in her program. ?We focused on how closing the gap would require investing more in early childhood,? White writes. ?I also spoke to Senator Moore and Representative Fernandes. The governor? loved the pictures and books the children made.? The Milford Daily News covered the event. White, the newspaper reports, ?praised Patrick for his work but said ?there?s always more that can be done. There are a lot of children out here that can?t afford early childhood (education), can?t afford day care because it?s too expensive.?? Governor Patrick will be in Westport on Thursday at 5 p.m. at the town marina at 2056 Main Road in Westport Point. The rain location has not yet been announced. He?ll be in Martha?s Vineyard on July 23 and in Boston on July 26. The time and locations in both places has not yet been announced. Check the link above for updates.
